Dear reader, there are many people that while they may be conscious of their need to receive Christ in their lives, they do not dare to seek him for fear of being rejected or punished. Many think that they must change their life before seeking the Lord. This way of thinking is incorrect and it could not be further from the truth. The Bible teaches that the process of Salvation begins not with us changing our lives or when we modify our behavior but it begins when we listen to the Word of God. This it is the first step, to listen “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Rom 10:17. When we listen to the Word of God, He begins to show or reveal our reality and this confronts us. This causes us to examine ourselves in the light of the Word, which is the second step “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. ” Heb 4:12.
Once this happens, many people move away from the Lord because they do not want to recognize that they are in an error and prefer to continue living according to their own desires. “Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it? From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.” John 6:60,66. Others are touched in a special way and take the next step of repentance and recognition of who God is in our lives. This it is the most important step, because it is not until this moment that the blood of Christ can wash us. “For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.” 2Co 7:10.
We must understand that we do not have the power to pull ourselves away from the vices, temptations, bad habits, or any other form of sin. The Bible says to us: “A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.” Eze 36:26 – 27 – Is with the power of Holy Spirit that we can overcome the sin that dominates our lives and we receive the Holy Spirit after we have accepted Jesus Christ. He pay the price with His life and is the only way to our salvation. “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6 – We should not waste time and reach to He who has the power to give us eternal life.
