Living Word – February 2013

The end does not justify the means. We are being taught by the world that whatever we do is ok or whatever methods we use, if the results are beneficial to us. For example lying to help out a person. We need to understand that we serve an Almighty God and that for him it is more important to obey than to get results. He has given us His Word to guide us and to let us know, how to conduct ourselves.

Samuel 6:2-7 “And David arose and went with all the people who were with him from Baale Judah to bring up from there the ark of God, whose name was called, the Lord of Jehova, who dwells between the cherubim. So they set the ark of God on a new cart, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill; and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drove the new cart”. “And when they came to Nachon’s threshing floor, Uzzah put out his hand to the ark of God and took hold of it, for the oxen stumbled. Then the anger of the Lord was aroused against Uzzah, and God struck him there for his error; and he died there by the ark of God.”

David had the good intention of bringing the ark of the covenant to Jerusalem but the method he used was not in accordance to scripture. God had instructed that the ark had to be carried over the shoulders, Exodus 25:14 and that they shall not touch a holy thing lest they die, Numbers 4:15. These instructions had not changed since the time of Moses. God does not change his instructions according to circumstance. The people of Israel knew the law and they had to obey it. In the same manner, God has given us his Word to guide us even at our present times. His Word remains the same and if we have known Him, we have the responsibility to follow His instructions. Otherwise, we will receive negative consequences for our actions. It doesn’t matter if our motivation or if our intention are correct, our behavior and where we come from has to be in accordance to what He has established.
