Ingratitude “Felisa”
A Moment to Reflect
by Lilia M. Fiallo
Who believed that the experience gained through so many years, the work, sufferings, anguishes, carelessness in the health and the running of time that seemed to stop, forget and in a minute, throws everything to the trash, alone for listening to the mind.
We all want to execute the work to the marvel, fulfilling a schedule, look for stability and thus, to receive a salary that will fill us with satisfaction in solving our desires. We set goals to achieve the planned goals, perhaps we save with dedication to buy a car, finish a career or buy a home, giving life to our dreams.
And while the days that turn into months run, the years come with great results. Finally the purchase of the house was crystallized and happiness seized everyone in the family. Furnishing is what you want and step by step will be achieved.
Maybe all Felisa wanted was to buy a house and the day arrived. Another illusion was born, because human beings are never satisfied with what we have, we want more and more.
She talked about something new she was knitting in her head, setting up a business or a company, said her husband, something that will give them an acceptable economic stability and they moved forward with the project. Sooner than expected, the bank granted them a loan and they established a solid, responsible and serious company.
How much satisfaction the heart welcomes to consolidate one and another important dream in the life of the people! The company planned long ago was another achievement; the service and the attention to the public always optimum. Another branch at the other end of the city soon arrived; and so the lives of many people.
Great satisfaction for the achievements over the years sharing in family gives tranquility to be able to buy the clothes that you want, to eat what you want, to travel and to know other cultures or maybe, to buy the car of the year, it seems that we are realized, satisfied, calm and at peace.
Suddenly sitting down having a cup of coffee, playing cards with friends or sharing with people close to so many experiences, she believes in the people, the loved ones that are around and we think they really love us.
The work life requires a permanent dedication but that does not interrupt the unconditional surrender of us to the family and the love that we lavish without repair, reason why it does not let us see the reality. Not always everyone around us looks at us with an open and clean mind. How much envy and greed weaves without realizing it. Without generalizing, we believe forever that as we give to other, they give themselves to us, but no, ¡ we are wrong!
As a lesson to be learned, the past hurricane Irma that hit Florida, revealed many sadness in the heart of the one I less imagined. The grandmother Felisa, a ninety-years-old widow in the deepest depression, had to spend those difficult days at some of her friend’s house, in the care of her maid, without any family member, since all of them in advanced had gone to a five-star hotel, far away and far from her.
The attitude of the family with her is always distant, showing that her presence is not pleasant, visiting from time to time and for a few minutes and if for some event they invite her, it is for some special occasion.
Why? – Because she believed in her family, she believed that they really wanted her and what they really wanted was her property, the fruit of so many year of work. She allowed herself to be carried away by the mind that betrayed her, and in life she gave them her money and wrote her property to her son and one of her grandchildren, making irreparable mistakes; in a minute, signed and delivered the peace and tranquility of her last years. Apart from having given them an education, comfort and a pleasant life, she gave them the much-needed well-being she needs at the end of her life.
As a lesson to learn, in life DO NOT give your inheritance. Do it in private, make a will to be revealed after the person dies.
Lilia M. Fiallo was born in Bogotá, Colombia, where, between tasks and free time, she found a place to write about subjects, somehow forgotten by others. With gold letters engraved in her memory, she began her working life, in the heart of the technical part, of the air traffic control of her native country. In the midst of aeronautical phraseology and codes, the world of aviation gave her one of the highest experiences, because of the precision required by this craft, where a single mistake could cost many lives. It is there, where in her concern to communicate her ideas, she begins to write with dedication, themes a little relegated by society, the Church and the State. Discovering a truth that nobody wants to talk about, but much more real and everyday, than it seems. It is thus, as it appears, her first work, “Parir por palir”.
