Uniting with the Latino community to help Animals
Because they are the fastest-growing demographic in the U.S., Latinos have tremendous influence. Young Latinos make up nearly 25% of the U.S. youth population.
While PETA has been conducting outreach in the Latino community for many years by producing leaflets, posters and other literature in Spanish, we have recently bolstered our outreach. PETALatino.com is a bicultural, multigenerational resource for the entire Latino community. The site uses Spanish and English because young people receive most of their information in English at school but speak Spanish with their older relatives at home.
PETALatino.com allows people to explore the world of animal rights through a Latino lens. Visitors to the site can learn how their favorite traditional recipes can be made vegan (that is, no animal flesh or animal products). They can learn how to combat health issues that are of particular concern to the Hispanic community. PETA also has a Latino Twitter account and YouTube channel.
Since one of the most effective ways to reach people with are animal- friendly message is through their favorite celebrities, we’ve teamed up with compassionate stars to produce ads in both English and Spanish. These celebrities include Kate del Castillo, Pablo Azar, Patricia DeLeon, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Natalia Villaveces, Constance Marie, Ruben Albarran and Roselyn Sanchez. Their messages encourage people to eat vegan, avoid fur, spay or neuter companion animals and speak out against bullfighting.
